Shopee Seller Shipping Fee Increase June 2023: What does it mean for sellers?

Starting from June 1, 2023, Shopee will be increasing the shipping fees for various delivery channels. These adjustments will apply to Standard Delivery Channels (Shopee Xpress, J&T, Ninja Van and Speedpost Standard), Ninja Van (Self-Collection), Shopee Xpress (Self-Collection), and uParcel. The updated fees will be applicable to all weight tiers for orders placed through these channels.

Basically this shipping fee increase is targeted at getting sellers to enroll in the Coins Cashback and Free Shipping Program. If you are already enrolled, then there are mostly no changes to your shipping fees (Except for Shopee Xpress Self-Collection, but it is a minor increment). If you are not enrolled in either program, you need to expect a up to 170% increase in your shipping fees (see below)

Regardless if whether or not you think the Coins Cashback or Free Shipping Program is worth the additional fees that you will incur, because of this change in shipping fees, there is a item price breakeven point where you definitely should join the programs as you will be charged less in participation fees than the increase in shipping fee rates.

For example, using the calculations we did above, if you are selling an item that is less than 1kg via Standard Channels, and your item selling price is less than $37.04, then you should join the Free Shipping Program. This is because the increase due to paying the program fees will be lower than the increase in shipping fees. (Eg. 2.16% of $20 product is $0.432 while the fee increase if you are not in the program is $0.80). By joining the program you will have less cost overall and also enjoy the benefits of the program.

However, if the items you are selling are usually >1kg and not priced less than $8.80, then overall if you join the programs you will incur more cost. In this case you may want to look into these programs to see if they are suitable for you and worth the additional cost you will need to incur.
